Jyoti has a brisk talking and cooking style and can cover a lot in a small space of time. All ingredients are laid out neatly and everything is shown in such a way to help beginners such as myself feel they can succeed in their own kitchen. I wished to learn some of the unforgettable flavours that I experienced, especially in South India, during my magical 4 month stay in this great country India. Jyoti consulted me on what dishes exactly I would like, which vegetables I would prefer, etc, as she can give classes in South and North Indian cooking and adapt to people's wishes.
Jyoti's cooking class was awesome.. She made us feel very welcome, she taught us an array of mouth watering dishes which she made quite simple to follow. It was a delight for me!
Our cooking experience with Gourmet Desire was the perfect ending to our holiday in India and we learnt so much. Jyoti was extremely helpful answering all my emails before the lesson, giving us lots of choice as to what sort of dishes we would like to cook, and she demonstrated and explained everything in her lovely home, making us feel very welcome. I would recommend this cooking experience to anyone wanting to learn more about the culture and the food of this fantastic country.
Taking the class gave me the confidence to use new spices, mustard oil and a newly purchased pressure cooker (Hawkins 2 liter). I was inspired to buy two spice boxes and fill them with spices from the spice market. So far, I've made butter chicken, aloo gobi, and the green chutney. I even brought the aloo gobi into work for a pot luck and it got great reviews from the folks from India!
We've taken cooking classes in many different places. Jyoti and Gourmet Desire is the best ever. She is delightful, warm and oh, does she know how to make the most delicious dishes! She makes it all seem easy, because she is so sensible about her advice. We've now tried making some of the dishes at home in New York with amazing success.
We had a fantastic experience on the last day of our tour of India with Jyoti, talking, learning, cooking and eating some tremendous Indian dishes. All the preparation had been done, all we had to do was cook, talk and eat. Jyoti is extremely knowledgeable about all things Indian and if you're a foodie the time will fly and you will come away having had the best time. I wish we'd managed to do this at the start of our tour as we'd have learned all sorts of insights that would have helped us get off the beaten track more as we visited Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur. We had a wonderful time but could have made even more of it with Jyoti's advice to hand. Ask about her very charismatic son who will show you some Delhi nightlife that you'll probably not get to see without him.
